Using visual storytelling techniques the film follows the key moments in this unique annual festivity, based on a "battle" between Christians (Bugios) and Moors (Mourisqueiros) for the statue of the patron saint, São João (St. John). The events that take place during the day - from daybreak to night - include staged dances, social satire and a recreation of a final battle, with capture of the leader of the Bugios by the Mourisqueiros.
