Wood and Lead in the Sky of Brescia
The Palazzo della Loggia is the political center and one of the cultural symbols of the city. For six hundred years in the sky of Brescia, the Loggia strongly marks the urban skyline and condenses the history of the city. Nicola Lucini's film: "Legno e Piombo nel cielo di Brescia" tells a part of the history of this place, that linked to the Palazzo's roof, a treasure of beauty and technology that has only recently been rediscovered. Through a brief historical excursus, based on original materials written and designed by great artists such as Palladio, Vanvitelli and Tagliaferri, we arrive at the contemporary history of the Loggia and the last extraordinary works conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of studies of Brescia under the direction of prof. Ezio Giuriani, works aimed at consolidating the roof. A work desired by the municipal administration that has become an Italian reference point in the field of recovery of monumental assets and earthquake-proof technologies. And then, finally, the overturned hull roofing is seen "from within" - a truly exciting visual experience. What emerges is a Brescia city of art for centuries, in architectural dialogue with the Palladian Basilica of Vicenza and with the Royal Palace of Caserta. But what finally comes to light is also a Brescia European city of technology: the construction of wooden arches, realized by assimilating engineering innovations with which the Eiffel Tower and the Central Station of Milan were built, anchor the city and its town hall in the contemporary of the early twentieth century. The documentary, wanted by the ASM Foundation and started out as a small production destined for the web, has slowly been structured as a real film, catalysing the most diverse energies around itself. From the interest of the production company Albatrosfilm, which became co-producer of the project, the commitment of the FAI of Brescia, and then the Councilorship of Tourism of the Municipality, Bresciatourism, the offices of the Monumental Building, ending with the University of Brescia will host the preview and the official presentation of the film in a special event within the Unibs Days 2017. Moving Culture is the cultural communication laboratory that, as on other happy occasions, has framed the enthusiasm of Nicola Lucini and its ability to involve professionals, associations and bodies. Struck with an enthusiasm that, we believe, deserves to be valued and multiplied, making sure that the whole city can know and appreciate the great cultural value of one of its symbols. Hence the idea of dedicating an event to the lodge divided into three moments: • the screening of the film Legno e Piombo in the sky of Brescia; • visits to the loggia attic; • a video installation with projection on the wall of Piazzale Rovetta. The video installation in Piazza Rovetta is the highlight of the event: the most spectacular images relating to the loggia attic will be projected from the windows of Sala Giudici on the wall of Piazza Rovetta, transformed into a giant screen. The hope is to provoke in the participants emotion and pride for the beauties of the city.
